AMP Marks World Veterinary Day

Source: Americans for Medical Progress (AMP) April 28th is observed as World Veterinary Day, designed to recognize and promote veterinary medicine's many contributions to human and animal health. For the occasion, AMP's Director of Public Affairs Kenneth Satterfield has written a commentary of how animal research has aided veterinary medicine, and the opposition it faces from animal rights groups. He writes: "More of us today are thinking about animal research and for the wrong reasons. We are deluged by wealthy animal rights organizations using their considerable resources to persuade us that animal research is cruel, unnecessary, and not supported by the scientific community. The tactics employed by these groups consist of misrepresentations, sensationalism, and cherry-picked statements by physicians and scientists who are not part of the mainstream research community."
