A SUMMARY of the results of a nationwide survey relating to the recruitment and retention, education and training of veterinary nurses (VNs), which is to be made available during the BSAVA Congress in Birmingham this weekend, does not make for comfortable reading. Regarding recruitment and retention, it tends to confirm anecdotal reports that many veterinary practices have difficulty retaining VNs once they have qualified, reporting that 1059 VNs have qualified in practice since January 2000, and 463 have left.
