Proposed Objectives
The elections are the most important WVA event; they are of greatest interest as the Presidents Assembly has the opportunity to assess the activities of the present executive committee and to study the program of the new candidate. During these elections, the President is choosen to lead the WVA over the next three years; he is supported by two new vice presidents and is guide and mandated by the Presidents Assembly, to realize the assigned objectives for the best interest of the profession.
If I’m elected President of the WVA, I will propose to the Presidents Assembly the following objectives:
• Improve veterinary public image by advancing the veterinary profession and follow up the upstanding work made by my predecessors and distinguished colleagues.
• Raise the profile of the WVA since WVA is the only non governmental organization (NGO) representing the veterinary profession globally. As such the WVA mission is to promote globally both animal and human health and well being through sustainable and humane use and management of animals including animal welfare. WVA also contributes to the veterinary protection and sustainability of the environment.
• Increase the number of associate members in order to reach at least 100 national and associate members (it is important to remind that WVA gathers only 69 members and that 192 countries are UN members and 172 countries are OIE members). The objective of 100 members is not inaccessible as in my quality of Vice President I succeeded to convince more than 12 national veterinary organization to join WVA .
• Organize more frequent meetings with national members such as one annual facultative meeting during the OIE annual session
• Enhance cooperation with international and regional organizations involved in veterinary activities, animal and public health, Livestock, Food Safety, Animal protection and animal welfare, drug industry (OIE, FAO, WHO, Codex , IFAH …) and expand on strong partnerships.
• Reinforce and strengthen the WVA Secretariat to be more efficient.
• Improve communication between WVA and members and between associate members through the WVA Website, WVA Newsletter and WVA events such as World Veterinary Day (may I remind you that the initiative of the creation and the celebration of the World Veterinary Day was taken during the WVA EXCOM meeting in Tunis on November 2000 and the first celebration started in Tunisia and some other countries in April 2001. This date was also the official creation of the African veterinary association.
• Improve animal protection and welfare and establish a lead role for veterinarians.
• Improve veterinary education and provide leadership in the preparation of globally recognized credentials for veterinarians
My strong belief in our association and my continuous commitment to our profession during the last decade make me a potential candidate for this prestigious and awarding position to accomplish the Pavlov Citation:
« If medicine cures men, veterinary medicine cures humanity »
I request your strong support during the President’s Assembly and the opportunity to work with you to enhance the global health and give an advanced role and merit for the veterinary profession.
