Recognition status: EAEVE,RCVS Website: www.uvm.sk University of Veterinary Medicine in Kosice is the only institution of its kind in the Slovak Republic. Currently provides education degree programs in general veterinary medicine, food hygiene, Cynology, feed and food safety, and Pharmacy. The University of Veterinary Medicine, Kosice was founded by the National Council which passed a law on 16th December, 1949. It started its activity in the 1949/50 academic year. Three years later it was changed into the Veterinary Faculty by an Order in Coucil of the 8th July, 1952 and became part of the newly established Agricultural University, Nitra. On the 19th December, 1969 its independent status was re-established by a decision of the National Assembly beginning with the academic year 1969/70. The first graduation ceremony was held on 23rd October, 1954 with the conferring of the degrees of "graduate veterinary surgeon". This degree was changed by the Higher Education Law No. 19/1966, and in the same year the first graduation ceremony was held in which the degree of "veterinary doctor" was awarded.
