WVA Position on Identifying a Veterinarian

Society depends on veterinary services in a wide array of activities that range from; managing the health and welfare of all animals, tending to the needs of sick and injured animals and a multitude of services needed in the area of the animal-human environmental interface. These activities provide for societal needs in: food safety and security, biosecurity, prevention of zoonotic disease, preservation of biodiversity, environmental protection and market access, to name a few. It is imperative that the public remain assured that the individuals providing these services are qualified and competent in these areas. The use of specific title reference is one means of
demonstrating that these conditions are met.
