WVD2015 celebrated by Assam Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Service Association (AAHVSA)

On 25th April 2015 the World Veterinary Day was celebrated by the Central Body of the Assam Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Service Association (AAHVSA)

along with Assam Veterinary Council (AVC) at Guwahati Blind School, Basistha in tune with the theme “Vector Borne Zoonotic Diseases”. The day started with a welcome song by the students of the Blind school, followed by felicitation of the members of the dais and progressive livestock farmers of the locality. It was then followed by the detailed

presentation on (i) “Vector borne diseases with zoonotic potential by Dr.(Mrs) Sthapana Sarmah, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, Guwahati Medical College & Hospital. Thereafter, keeping with the trend the2014 and 15 retired Veterinarians were felicitated for their valued service to the profession. This was followed by the presentation on “Special emphasis on Control & Prevention of Japanese Encephalitis, Plague, Dengue, Malaria and Filariasis” by Dr. Monaj Goswami, Veterinary Officer, Guwahati Municipality Corporation, Government of Assam. Before the end, with Vote of Thanks to the dais in particular and the public in general a very short presentation was delivered by the Regional Head of Intas Pharmaceuticals the sponsor of the event.

The presentation by the resource persons was very informative as it was deliberated in the vernacular language targeting the student community and the public in general. The deliberations could be well comprehended as the subject generated quite a few questions amongst the student community.
