Memorial – Prof. Dr. Farouk EL-Dessouky 1933-2016
It is with great sorrow that the WVA received the message that Prof. Dr. Farouk EL-Dessouky, WVA Councillor for the Middle East and North Africa, passed away on 10th March 2016 at age 83 in Egypt.
Prof. Dr. Farouk EL-Dessouky was a member of the WVA Council since 2011 and the President of the Egyptian Veterinary Medical Association.
Prof. Dr. Farouk EL-Dessouky had an impressive veterinary professional career, involving many positions and countries. He was a FAO UN representative and consultant for the Middle East region since 1987. He was a Professor Emeritus of Theriogenology in Cairo University since 1996. Prof EL-Dessouky was involved in the work of numerous veterinary and animal-related associations and also functioned as a consultant in Ministry of Agriculture of Egypt. He published two books on artificial insemination technique and more than 100 scientific papers.
Prof. Dr. Farouk EL-Dessouky was not only a very committed veterinarian, but also a very kind and friendly person. He leaves a huge void and he will be truly missed by his family and his many colleagues and friends around the world.
