Prof. Nivaldo had been hospitalized since 7th
October as a result of a car accident in which he had suffered multiple
fractures and serious condition.
Prof Dr. Nivaldo
holds a master's degree from two universities (UFMG and Universidad Autónoma de
Madrid) and a doctorate from the Complutense University of Madrid-Spain.
He worked as a clinical veterinarian, surgeon and animal husbandry, always
working with large animals, a function he considered to be his first
specialization in the area. He was a researcher at Embrapa and, since the
1980s, He published numerous scientific articles in national and international
journals and received important honors. For 40 years he was a professor at the
Veterinary School of UFMG and retired as a full professor in 2016. He
considered that the greatest honor was to have contributed to the mentoring of
more than 4,500 veterinarians; "This greatly gratifies me, because I
was a student of a very humble origin and, thus, I was able to repay what I
received for having studied at a federal public university, supported by the
Brazilian people". Always optimistic and humble he used to say that it
is in the simplest things that lies the essence of Life.
Prof Dr Nivaldo joined us at the 34th WVA
Congress in Barcelona, met with One Health world leaders and the WVA General
Assembly, leading the Brazilian Delegation to discuss possibilities to hold the
3rd Global Conference on One Health Brazil next year. He was
enthusiastically looking forward receiving WVA and WMA members and colleagues
Our thoughts and prayers are with Dr da Silva grieving
family, friends and colleagues and we honour his great contributions and
leadership to Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science.
