The degree in Veterinary Medicine at University should provide general training in the exercise of the profession, being able to understand and translate the needs of the population in different specific fields of expertise: Animal Health and Veterinary Clinic, Hygiene and Preventive Veterinary Medicine, Public Health and Inspection of Animal Products, Animal Science, Production and Animal Reproduction Technology, Animal Products, Ecology and Environmental Protection.

The veterinarian may act in different areas:
- Medical practice of domestic and wild animals in private clinics, veterinary hospitals, zoos, rehabilitation centers and rural areas;
- Dominates knowledge of technology to perform inspection of animal products in shops and stores;
- Coordinates and manages farms, poultry farms and animal production;
- Know the techniques of animal breeding procedures to perform artificial insemination and embryo transfer;
- Promotes, manages and has sales of veterinary drugs and vaccines in the commercial area;
- Carries out extension activities in rural properties;
- Conducts research in private and public institutions;
- Acts in teaching in private educational institutions, public and federal
- Implementing public health measures in cities to combat the diseases transmissible to humans.

The veterinarian has room in their professional practice, the significant contribution of increased food production through genetic improvement of livestock, the biotech applied for breeding and maintaining high standards of animal health, or in consequences of its action on health, in which interdisciplinary teams in health surveillance and epidemiological control of zoonoses, in planning, management and structuring of public health campaigns and livestock enterprises in the production of infectious immunobiological, the preservation of ecosystems and biodiversity, scientific research and dissemination of technology in agricultural development programs in the diagnosis of food of animal origin and also in medical and surgical care, especially the pet, where the trader carries relevant fraction and stiffness of the animals and the orientation of their owners.
