The Australian Veterinary Association today congratulated the Treasurer on recognising the need for additional funding to improve the response to disease and pest incursions.
President, Dr Diane Sheehan, said “all the indications point to serious deficiencies in Australia’s biosecurity and quarantine”.
“Australia’s vets are at the frontline of biosecurity. The real investment must go to stronger support for the profession: a better resourced Australian Veterinary Reserve and National Surveillance Network, a strengthened network of laboratories and enhanced on farm biosecurity are all critical to strong containment”, said Dr Sheehan.
