You are cordially invited to attend the Brucellosis 2008 International Research Conference (including the 61st Brucellosis Research Conference) to be held at Royal Holloway College [2], University of London on 10 to 13 September 2008. We are particularly pleased that both the WHO and the CTA have agreed to co-sponsor the meeting along with VLA and Defra.

This will be the latest in a series of successful international meetings previously held in France, Spain and Mexico, and originating from the decision of the Brucellosis Society to broaden the spread of its meetings.

The conference is aimed at scientists, government and international regulators, veterinarians, and clinicians with an interest in brucellosis. We hope that the meeting will encourage the interface between these groups essential in the ongoing struggle against this global zoonosis.

The scientific programme [3] will include a blend of fundamental and applied research as well providing a forum for discussion of tools and procedures relevant to the control of brucellosis. The programme will include reviews by eminent scientists within the brucellosis field covering current understanding, and future prospective developments, in their areas of interest.

Registrants will have the opportunity to submit titles [4] for oral and poster presentations and participate in ‘Question & Answer’ sessions with leading brucellosis workers. We hope that this format will give all who attend a broader understanding of the global nature of brucellosis and a framework to develop international solutions. It will enable professionals to exchange research data and ideas, while building ties with colleagues worldwide.

The VLA has a long history in the extended fight against this disease and we are delighted to have been asked to host this meeting. We look forward to seeing you in the UK in September."
