Dr Patricia Turner, WVA Immediate Past President, wins award

The Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) has announced that Dr Patricia V. Turner is this year’s winner of the Harry C. Rowsell Award for Outstanding Service to the CCAC. She has been presented this award as she has devoted countless hours as a volunteer promoting the ethical treatment of animals in science not only in Canada, but around the world. Within the WVA, she has been on the Animal Welfare Strategic Focus Group and has worked on numerous Position Statements on animal welfare.

The CACC says “Her passion for animal welfare education and training runs deep, and she has delivered lectures, seminars, and workshops to a range of veterinary and scientific audiences, on a variety of topics related to laboratory animal science and animal welfare and ethics. A rigorous but compassionate teacher, she has trained hundreds of veterinary peers and students, and has put in place three well-regarded post-graduate programs for veterinarians specializing in laboratory animal science. Dr. Turner is now developing an online certificate program in animal welfare for laboratory animal technicians.

Congratulations to you, Dr Patricia Turner!
