WVA participation in the United Against Rabies Forum 2025

The United Against Rabies (UAR) Forum 2025 Stakeholder Meeting, held from 7–9 October 2025 at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital in Bangkok, gathered over 90 organizations from 41 countries to assess global progress toward the Zero by 30 target, ending human deaths from dog-mediated rabies by 2030. The UAR Forum is a multi-stakeholder platform supported by the WOAH, FAO and WHO that brings together governments, NGOs, academia, and the private sector to coordinate rabies elimination efforts through a One Health paradigm. The World Veterinary Association (WVA) is one of the official partners of the Forum, contributing to its technical and advocacy initiatives.

WVA 2025–2030: A Purpose-Driven Global Strategy for Veterinary Medicine

The World Veterinary Association (WVA) has launched its forward-looking 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, reaffirming its mission to strengthen the global veterinary profession and deliver tangible value to its members. As a federation of national, regional, and specialty veterinary associations, the WVA recognizes the increasing need for international alignment in veterinary medicine, particularly in areas such as disease control, food safety, animal welfare, medicines availability, and the ecological impact of health systems. These global challenges require coordinated global solutions.

World Rabies Day 2025: Building Readiness, Ending Rabies

Today, on World Rabies Day, we come together under the theme “You, Me, Community.”, a very pertinent theme and campaign put together by our partners The Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC). Rabies is one of the world’s oldest and deadliest diseases, but also one of the most preventable. Every year, nearly 59,000 people die from rabies[1], most of them children in vulnerable communities. This suffering is unnecessary: rabies is 100% preventable through vaccination, education, and responsible animal care.

WVA President supports IVSA with €5,000 Grant to Strengthen Global Veterinary Student Leadership

The World Veterinary Association (WVA) has provided a one-time grant of €5,000 to the International Veterinary Students’ Association (IVSA) to strengthen the association’s financial sustainability and leadership development. The grant was formally presented during the IVSA Annual Meeting and General Assembly held in Taiwan.

The WVA and MSD Animal Health are delighted to announce that the applications to the 2025 Veterinary Student Scholarship Programme are now open! We will attribute 40 scholarships of 5000 USD to students from countries in the regions of Latin America, Africa, North Africa/Middle East and Asia/Oceania.

Veterinary Para-professionals workshop in Nigeria

Following on from the first successful workshop held in Uganda a second workshop was hosted in Nigeria on the 25th and 26th of June 2025. The World Veterinary Association again in partnership with the Africa Veterinary Technicians Association (AVTA) held this very successful workshop being part of a series planned for the three target countries (South Africa, Nigeria, and Uganda) in Phase 2 of the “Sustainable Business through Training for Veterinary Paraprofessionals” project. The primary objective is to strengthen collaboration between the veterinary and VPP(AHT) associations, and to highlight the crucial role of the work of VPPs globally.

WVA champions global veterinary leadership at WVAC2025/AVMA Convention through the One Health Summit and Expert Seminars

WVA took the 40th World Veterinary Association Congress (WVAC), to Washington, D.C., to be hosted the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). Besides and amazing Continuing Education programme led by AVMA, WVA a series of events addressing some of the most pressing challenges in veterinary medicine and global health. The highlight of WVA’s engagement was the 11th WVA Global One Health Summit, held on 20 July 2025, which focused on the veterinary profession’s essential role in tackling global food security through the One Health lens.

World Veterinary Association Publishes Annual Report Highlighting Global Impact and Strategic Growth

WVA has published its Annual Report of Activities, outlining the Association’s key achievements and milestones since the last General Assembly, held in Cape Town on 22 April 2024. This year’s report showcases WVA’s ongoing commitment to advancing global veterinary priorities, strengthening international partnerships, and driving strategic growth across all areas of its work. Central to these efforts has been the collective dedication of the WVA Council, Committees, Working Groups, the Secretariat, and the wider WVA membership.

WVA and Ceva Animal Health Celebrate Global Veterinary Excellence during WVAC2025/AVMA Convention

WVA and Ceva Animal Health (Ceva), the fifth-largest animal health company globally, proudly held an award ceremony to recognise the outstanding veterinary professionals worldwide, honouring their achievements. The biggest honour of the night, Veterinarian of the Year, was awarded to Professor Susan W. Mbugua, who was also the winner of the Veterinary Education category. A retired Professor of Veterinary Surgery from the University of Nairobi, she revolutionised veterinary education through her expertise in complex surgical disciplines, while serving as Founding Chairperson of the Kenya Small and Companion Animal Veterinary Association and shaping professional standards across East Africa.
