From January 20 to 22, 2026, veterinary professionals from across Mexico and beyond gathered in Monterrey, Nuevo León for the Convención Nacional 2026, hosted by the Federación de Colegios y Asociaciones de Médicos Veterinarios Zootecnistas de México (FedMVZ) at CINTERMEX in Monterrey.
The annual convention, a cornerstone event for the Mexican veterinary community, brought together veterinarians, industry experts, educators, students, and leaders from the public and private sectors for three days of conferences, workshops, and professional exchange. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with national sector leaders, explore current topics in animal health and welfare, and participate in specialized training sessions.
A highlight of the gathering was the participation of Dr. John de Jong, President of the World Veterinary Association (WVA), who was in attendance to deliver a keynote address on One Health, emphasizing the interconnectedness of animal, human, and environmental health. Dr. de Jong’s presence underscored the importance of global collaboration and professional unity as the veterinary field navigates shared challenges ranging from zoonotic disease prevention to sustainable livestock production.
Dr. de Jong’s talk centered on the principles of One Health, reinforcing the role veterinarians play in addressing complex health issues that cross species and borders. His remarks drew interest from participants eager to integrate global perspectives into local practice.
The convention continues to serve as a key forum for strengthening professional networks, advancing veterinary practice standards, and fostering shared solutions to emerging issues in animal and public health.
