U.S. Veterinarian Dr. Randall Singer Named Winner of Medicine Stewardship Category in the WVA Global Veterinary Awards

The World Veterinary Association (WVA) and Ceva Santé Animale (Ceva) are pleased to announce that Dr. Randall Singer, nominated by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), is the winner of the Medicine Stewardship category in the prestigious WVA Global Veterinary Awards.

Dr. Singer, a professor of epidemiology in the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Minnesota, has dedicated his professional career to exploring the impact of antimicrobial use in animal agriculture on microbial populations and the implications for animal, human, and environmental health. For more than a decade, he has brought academic excellence and practical insight to one of the most pressing issues in global health: antimicrobial resistance.

A prominent contributor to national and international antimicrobial stewardship policy, Dr. Singer has served as a U.S. delegate to the Codex Alimentarius Intergovernmental Task Force on Antimicrobial Resistance (2007–2010 and 2017–2021), a voting member of the U.S. Presidential Advisory Council on Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria (2015–2019), and a speaker at the United Nations Conversation with the Private Sector on AMR in 2016.

Beyond his academic and policy influence, Dr. Singer has played a key role in supporting the AVMA’s strategic priorities on stewardship, particularly through his impactful contributions as a member of the AVMA Committee on Antimicrobials (CoA). His leadership has helped shape frameworks and guidance tools that enable veterinarians to make informed, responsible antimicrobial decisions across species and sectors.

“At Ceva Santé Animale, we are deeply honored to support the WVA Global Veterinary Awards. These awards shine a light on the extraordinary dedication of veterinarians and animal health professionals across the world. Their commitment not only safeguards animal well-being but also protects human health and our shared environment. Celebrating their impact is more than recognition—it’s an affirmation of the vital role they play in shaping a healthier, more sustainable future for all.”
Geraldine Kutas, Corporate Affairs and Communication Executive Vice-President, Ceva Santé Animale

Dr. Singer is the first winner to be announced in the lead-up to the WVA Global Veterinary Awards Ceremony, which will take place on 19 July 2026 during the World Veterinary Association Congress (WVAC) in Washington DC, US.
One outstanding individual will be named Veterinarian of the Year during the awards ceremony.
