Veterinary Leaders Gather in Charlottetown for the 2026 CVMA Convention

The Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) is pleased to welcome veterinary professionals from across Canada and beyond to the 2026 CVMA Convention, taking place June 24–28 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. This year's CVMA Convention brings together veterinarians, veterinary technologists and technicians, students, industry partners, and thought leaders to learn, collaborate, and advance the future of veterinary medicine.

FVE, FECAVA and WSAVA position statement: Support for a phase-out of fur farming

On 14 November 2025, the FVE General Assembly adopted the FVE, FECAVA and WSAVA position statement: Support for a phase-out of fur farming. FVE, the Federation of Companion Animal Veterinary Associations (FECAVA) and the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) call for the phasing out of fur farming globally. As veterinarians committed to animal health and welfare, public health and the protection of the environment, FVE, FECAVA and WSAVA believe that fur farming is no longer sustainable.

Investing in the Future of Veterinary Medicine: Meet the 2025 Scholarship Recipients

The World Veterinary Association (WVA), together with MSD Animal Health, is delighted to celebrate the recipients of the 2025 WVA/MSD Animal Health Veterinary Student Scholarship Program. Each year, the program highlights promising veterinary students who demonstrate not only academic excellence, but also a clear commitment to advancing animal health and serving their communities. In this last programme, 40 students from Africa, Asia and Oceania, Latin America, and the Middle East have been selected to receive scholarships valued at USD 5,000 each.

WVA Opens Nominations for Committees and Working Groups for the 2026–2028 Term

WVA is pleased to invite its Constituent Members to nominate experts for participation in WVA Committees and Working Groups during the 2026–2028 term. Following the appointment of Chairs to all Committees and Working Groups by the President Isao Kurauchi, and ratified by the Council, nominations are now open for Ad Hoc Members across all Working Groups, as well as for the WVA Policy Committee and the WVAC Standing Committee.

Key Outcomes of the 79th World Health Assembly

The 79th World Health Assembly took place in Geneva from 19 to 27 May 2026. Several developments were particularly relevant for WVA’s ongoing work on One Health, antimicrobial resistance and pandemic preparedness. During the Assembly, Member States adopted the Global Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) 2026–2036. The Plan was subsequently approved by WOAH Member States during the General Session and will guide implementation of the commitments made in the 2024 United Nations General Assembly Political Declaration on AMR.
