The World Veterinary Association (WVA) is proud to celebrate the recognition of the Essential Veterinary Medicines List (EVML) for Food-Producing Animals, which has received the inaugural Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Collaboration Award.
The EVML was co-created by the World Veterinary Association (WVA) and Brooke to improve access to essential veterinary medicines worldwide. Developed through the expertise of veterinary professionals from across the globe, the EVML serves as a practical blueprint to help countries develop and adapt their own national essential veterinary medicines lists based on local animal health priorities and disease prevalence.
Since its launch in 2024, the EVML has supported the development of the first national essential veterinary medicines lists in Ethiopia, Kenya, Zambia and Malawi, while also informing updates to existing lists in Tanzania and Uganda. The initiative promotes responsible medicine use, strengthens access to quality veterinary care, and supports global efforts to address antimicrobial resistance through a One Health approach.
The RCVS Collaboration Award recognises projects that demonstrate the power of partnership in advancing the veterinary profession. This recognition highlights the impact of the collaborative work led by WVA and Brooke, together with experts from academia, clinical practice, international organisations and veterinary services around the world.
WVA is honoured to have co-developed this important global resource and remains committed to working with partners to improve animal health and welfare by supporting equitable access to essential veterinary medicines worldwide.
