The World Veterinary Association (WVA), the International Veterinary Students’ Association (IVSA) and Dr Neil Vezeau (US) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further develop and maintain a global Veterinary Education Establishments (VEE) Index, a publicly accessible database of institutions offering veterinary education worldwide.
The project which is led by Dr. Neil Vezeau, a veterinarian and public health professional, builds on earlier efforts by the WVA, which has previously maintained a list of veterinary education establishments, and aggregates existing regional and national lists developed by organizations such as WVA, WOAH, AVMA, and others. The initiative is bringing them together into a single, transparent global database. and represents a significant expansion toward a more comprehensive and verified global resource.
Soon to be hosted on the WVA website, the VEE Index will provide key information on veterinary institutions, including official names, locations, contact details, and accreditation status where available. The project aims to support transparency, international collaboration, workforce development, and research across veterinary education systems, while also contributing to broader One Health initiatives.
Data collection and verification will be carried out by a global network of volunteers coordinated by WVA and IVSA, ensuring regional representation and high data quality. The MoU is effective for an initial four-year period, with both organizations committed to the long-term maintenance and periodic review of the Index.Looking ahead, the project partners are actively developing additional collaborations and partnerships to further strengthen the VEE Index, enhance its impact, and ensure its long-term sustainability as a global resource for the veterinary profession.
