The World Veterinary Association (WVA) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) are committed to addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and promoting responsible antimicrobial stewardship in animal health. To support these efforts, WVA and WOAH are updating the WVA/WOAH Global Repository of Guidelines for the Responsible Use of Antimicrobials in Animal Health. First established in 2018, this repository serves as a vital resource for sharing best practices and strategies to combat AMR globally.
Antimicrobial resistance threatens the sustainability of veterinary practices, increasing the risk of disease outbreaks and weakening treatment options. To mitigate this challenge, the repository collects and compiles guidelines from around the world, providing a comprehensive overview of current practices. These guidelines are essential in enabling veterinary professionals, regulatory bodies, and institutions to share knowledge and adopt strategies that effectively reduce antimicrobial resistance.
To ensure that the repository remains up-to-date and relevant, WVA and WOAH are updating it through a survey. We invite veterinary professionals, regulatory authorities, academic institutions, and other stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to contribute their updated guidelines.
Purpose of the Survey:
The purpose of this survey is to gather updated information on existing guidelines that promote the responsible use of antimicrobials in animal health. The WVA and WOAH aim to:
- Update the Repository: Ensure that the global repository reflects the most current guidelines and best practices.
- Identify Best Practices: Highlight effective strategies that can be adopted or adapted in other regions.
- Fill Gaps: Recognize areas where guidelines are lacking and encourage the development of new guidelines.
Deadline: 31st March.
Once all responses have been collected, the updated repository will be published online as a public resource, with filters and navigation, ensuring continuous accessibility. Additionally, the repository will remain open for the submission of new guidelines, which will be reviewed for inclusion on a semi-annual basis.
