WVAC2024 in Cape Town, South Africa, awaits you!

Resilience in the face of adversity

On behalf of the South African Veterinary Association and the World Veterinary Association, it is our pleasure to invite you to attend the 39 th World Veterinary Association Congress (WVAC2024), scheduled for 16-19 April 2024, at the award-winning Cape Town International Convention Centre.
The theme for the congress is “Resilience in the face of Adversity” and speaks to the vital qualities animal health professions require as they often encounter challenging situations that demand emotional strength and fortitude. Veterinarians and veterinary staff regularly face difficult decisions, heartbreaking cases, and the emotional toll of dealing with pet owners in distress. Resilience in this context involves not only the ability to cope with the demands of the job but also to maintain empathy and compassion amidst adversity.
Veterinary professionals must navigate the delicate balance between providing care for animals and supporting their owners during motionally charged moments. Developing resilience in the face of adversity in the veterinary industry requires a commitment to continuous learning, self-care, and a supportive work environment. Those who exhibit resilience in this field not only endure the hardships but also contribute to the well-being of both animals and their human companions, creating a positive impact within the challenging landscape of veterinary care.
The congress will host leading speakers from around the world to present and discuss the latest knowledge and innovations in veterinary medicine, demonstrating the value of the profession for the public good in our rapidly changing world and how being resilient in the face of adversity will provide the leading advantage.
We have received over 430 abstracts from 33 countries and 5 continents across the globe. 341 has been placed in the scientific programme and more than 90 has been selected for poster presentations.
The 4-day congress programme will consist of 2 plenary sessions and 13 parallel breakout sessions, covered by over 210 speakers. The WVAC2024 congress will also co-host the annual local congresses of the South African Veterinary Association (SAVA), the National Veterinary Clinicians Group (NVCG), the Ruminant Veterinary Association of South Africa (RuVASA), the South African Equine Veterinary Association (SAEVA), the Veterinary Nurses Association of South Africa (VNASA), the Veterinary History Society of South Africa and the Wildlife Group of the SAVA. The programme will also consist of a full day for the WVA General Assembly, the 10th WVA Global One Health Summit, the WVA – Animal Welfare Seminar and a Round Table on AMR in Veterinary Education.
